Club History

How it all started

A fantastic forum for spending time with like-minded people and making friends...

Marian worked for a company called the Theatregoers Club of Great Britain for 10 years taking trips and holidays, before deciding to go out on her own.

Marian started the Herts Theatre Club in 2002 with a focus on providing senior members from Harpenden and the surrounding areas, quality and convenient ways to go on outings.

Members can enjoy visiting London and Provincial theatre to see musicals, plays, opera and ballet as well as visiting art galleries, exhibitions, events and going on holidays in the UK and abroad. Boasting approximately 400 members – the club offers a fantastic forum for spending time with like-minded people and making friends. Providing this platform for her members is one of Marian’s key motivations in running the club; ensuring everyone can have the opportunity to get out and enjoy themselves.

Marian was awarded the title, ‘Group Travel Organiser of the Year’ in 2017 by the Group Leisure and Travel Magazine a leading magazine for the Leisure Industry. Marian had to go through a two-stage interview process with a panel of industry experts, before being presented with this honor. We couldn’t be more proud!

GTC Final 1000

As well as running the Herts Theatre Club, Marian launched The Go Together Travel Club in 2005. The idea for this group came from The Harpenden Trust, a local charity who asked Marian to start a group for people in Harpenden and the surrounding areas, who like to go on coach trips on a regular basis. The aim of the Harpenden Trust is to help Harpenden people in need, individually and collectively – and this is ultimately the same passion that drives Marian to run her clubs. Ensuring local senior citizens are provided with opportunities to go out, socialize and enjoy themselves.

The Go Together Club mainly takes days out to places of interest including National Trust, English Heritage, Private Houses and Gardens, Exhibitions, Historic Buildings, Boat Trips and English holidays. At The Go Together Club we are enthusiastic about taking people to places they would otherwise not be able to visit on their own.
